About me

Professor Innocent Chinyere Ohiri was born on 5th September, 1953 in Obi-Orodo, Mbaitoli Local Government Area of Imo State Nigeria to the family of Chief and Lolo Festus Ohiri. He had his Primary School education first in Orodo Primary School and later in St. Mary’s Catholic School Alor. He had his Secondary School education in the then St. John’s College Alor where he obtained his West African School Certificate (WASC) in 1972. He proceeded to the University of Calabar in 1977 for his first degree in Theatre Arts and graduated in 1981.

After his National Youth Service programme with the Nigerian Television Authority, Port Harcourt, he proceeded to the University of Ibadan where he studied and obtained a Master of Arts and Doctor of philosophy both in Theatre Arts in 1984 and 1988 respectively.

He served the Nigerian Television Authority for a total of 18 years as a film producer before he transferred his services to the University of Port Harcourt. At the University of Port Harcourt, he has held many positions of responsibility which include examination officer (2000-2002), academic adviser (2003-2005), Head, Department of Theatre Arts (2010-2012) and Chairman Departmental Graduate Studies Committee (2018 to date) to mention but a few.

He is a member of many professional bodies which include Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), Directors Guild of Nigeria (DGN) and Society of Nigeria Theatre Artists (SONTA). His hobbies include travelling, reading and acting in which he has made the name “Willy-willy of Nigeria”. He is married to Mrs. Lilain Ohiri and the marriage is blessed with three children.
